DRIVING TIPS FOR YOUR ‘BALIK KAMPUNG’

Observe safe driving tips for your ‘Balik Kampung’ this festive season:-

* Plan your journey- Identify the route and interchanges that you want to take as well as the rest areas for rest stops. Use a map to plan your journey.

* Have adequate rest- Rest sufficiently during the day if you wish to travel by night.- Avoid driving during late night and early morning hours, which are the body’s natural sleep times.

* Inspect your vehicle thoroughly before embarking on your journey.* Make sure your spare tyre is well inflated.

* Send your vehicle for service.

* Leave early

* Buckle up

* Observe the speed limit.

*Allow a safe distance from the vehicle in front.- Keep a safe distance between you and the car in front so you have a bit of extra space should there be an emergency stop. The safe distance for a vehicle traveling at 110 km/h is 30 meters (6 vehicles), 25 meters (5 vehicles) for a vehicle traveling at 100 km/h and 20 meters (4 vehicles) for a vehicle traveling at 90 km/h.

* Take regular breaks. Stop every two hours to rest and stretch.- Driving continuously for two hours can make you feel fired and drowsy.- Share your driving. Switch drivers about every two hours even if you don’t feel tired.

* Give your fullest concentration while driving.
