Saturday, 13 June 2009 was a huge success!! Toyota Staff Volunteers had fun, gained experience and most importantly they learned a lot. They especially learned about the peat swamp. According to the presenter, peat swamp forests are often mistaken as waste land. They are drained to make way for other land uses. As a result, the peat dries up and becomes susceptible to fire. This results in smoke and haze which cause hazards to communities living nearby and impact on economic activities and productivity. Loss of peat forests also leads to increase of floods surrounding the area. Furthermore, that day was the training for the volunteers to prepare for the 27 June event where they are expected to collect wildings. The presentation given by GEC and demonstration by Uncle Salleh from the forestry department was not just insightful but very interesting.

PEATLAND???

FACT
60% of the world's tropical petlands are found in south east asia covering an estimated area of bet. 21 to 23 million ha. They occur mainly as peat swamp forests - one of the region's most important etland ecosystems.

Peatlands are important for socio-economic development and provide support for te livelihoods of local communities. they provide timebr and non-timber forest products, help to maintain our forest supply , controls floods and provide potential for tourism and recreations.

MALAYSIA CASE
We have about 2.5 million ha of peatlands with the majority in Sarawak. Peatland can provide water supply for iirigaion and domestic purposes, as well as flood control. They are also recognised for their carbon storage role. Approximately 20,000 ha of peatland has been severely damaged in recent fires. :(

kitchen station?

my rented house doesn't come with a proper cabinet for the kitchen.due to that,im having difficulties to do my cooking preparation, hence the poor taste of my cooking ( :P ) i thnk i need one of these as my kitchen work station.. eemmmm.. the 1st.picture is nice but it is too big..the second picture way cheaper but it it has less storage space :( eeemm...

went to ikea recently and was entralled by this big pcture frame.. bought 3 of them..tak tau nak letak kat mana..mula2 plan nak letak kt sebaris 3 bijik kt atas tv tu..tp meyemak la pulak sbb ruang tamu tu kecik bebenor..emmmm..
